Karo Rei is a Japanese novelist and essayist based between Kyoto and Warsaw.
She writes science fiction and contemporary suspense, often set in Europe, exploring AI ethics, surveillance, identity, and the tension between technology and human choice.
Academic Focus

Alongside her writing, Karo Rei is preparing, as a working adult, to apply to universities in Poland.
She is interested in AI ethics and the design of AI-based crisis prediction systems, and plans to pursue studies in either political science or a technology-related field.

Karo Rei is an active chess player.
She may participate in a chess tournament in Poland in December 2026, valuing it as a discipline that sharpens strategic thinking, patience, and long-term decision-making.
Future Plans

Karo Rei plans to attend the Frankfurt Book Fair in autumn 2026.
In 2026, she will spend approximately two months on the island of Roatán, Honduras. During this time, she will be based on the island and may spend part of her stay within Prospera ZEDE, focusing on field research and on-site interviews.
She also plans to visit Crypto Valley in Switzerland and Madeira’s digital nomad village in Portugal as part of her ongoing research into emerging global communities, alternative governance models, and experimental living environments.
